Washington, D.C. — Paid Leave for All Action Founding Director Dawn Huckelbridge released the following statement in response to the Republicans Budget Bill:
“The passage of the Republicans’ budget bill is a complete betrayal of the American people. It is an attack on working families everywhere, all to pad the pockets of billionaires and the wealthiest businesses in the country. Paid Leave for All Action and our partners intend to spend the months to come making it very clear everything that was in this bill and the devastation and destruction it will cause, including disingenuous tax credits they’ve named “paid leave,” all to hand more money to wealthy corporations with no accountability for the public dollars spent.
Not only does this bill rob American families of health care, food, and education, but it makes a joke of our political system and any pretense of fiscal conservatism. Four years ago the CBO score of the Build Back Better legislative package, which was wildly popular with pro-growth policies like paid family and medical leave, child care, aging and disability care, was $367 billion. This current bill will cost $4.5 trillion and will hurt the economy and bottom lines in communities everywhere.
We will fight for a government that sees and serves working families, not one that attacks them and steals from them for the profit of the wealthiest.”
